Job Description for International Logistics Manager

Oversee International Shipments:
- Manage the movement of goods between different countries and ensure timely deliveries.
- Coordinate with shipping carriers, freight forwarders, and customs brokers to facilitate the smooth transit of goods.
- Select the most cost-effective and efficient shipping methods (air, sea, road, or rail).

Customs Compliance:
- Ensure that all shipments comply with international trade laws, tariffs, and customs regulations.
- Prepare and manage the required documentation (e.g., bills of lading, certificates of origin, import/export licenses).
- Stay updated on changing trade regulations and tariffs across different countries.

Supply Chain Coordination:
- Work closely with suppliers, manufacturers, warehouses, and distributors to synchronize logistics and production schedules.
- Monitor stock levels and ensure inventory is maintained to avoid shortages or overstocking.
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize inventory management, reduce lead times, and improve supply chain efficiency.

Vendor & Partner Management:
- Manage relationships with international suppliers, logistics companies, and third-party service providers.
- Negotiate contracts, rates, and service terms to ensure optimal service and cost savings.

Risk Management & Problem Solving:
- Identify potential risks in the logistics process (e.g., delays, damages, theft) and implement solutions to minimize them.
- Address and resolve any issues related to shipping, customs clearance, or product delivery.

Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of shipments, inventory, customs clearance, and other logistics-related activities.
- Generate regular reports on logistics performance, costs, and efficiency for upper management.
- Ensure that all international trade documentation is up to date and readily accessible.

Budget Management:
- Develop and manage the logistics department’s budget, ensuring cost-effective operations.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and optimize supply chain expenditures.

Team Management:
- Lead and supervise a team of logistics professionals, providing training and guidance as needed.
- Foster a collaborative environment to ensure effective communication and operations within the logistics team.

Customer Service & Satisfaction:
- Collaborate with customer service teams to resolve any shipping or delivery issues for customers.
- Monitor customer satisfaction and respond to any logistics-related concerns promptly.

Strategic Planning & Process Improvement:
- Continuously evaluate and improve logistics processes and systems to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve customer service.
- Implement technology solutions such as logistics software or systems to track shipments and streamline operations.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain management, international business, or a related field (Master's degree is a plus).
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in logistics or supply chain management, with at least 2 years in an international logistics role.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of international trade laws, customs regulations, and tariffs.
- Excellent organizational, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in logistics software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with diverse teams across multiple countries.
- Ability to manage budgets and meet financial targets.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with managing international freight forwarding or customs brokerage.
- Fluency in additional languages (especially for global organizations).
- Certification in logistics or supply chain management (e.g., CSCMP, APICS).
